Kellies

HU Being Reformed

With all the bad publicity over the past year or two at Horses Unlimited, Kellie Parlee and her husband Ryan Collins have their work cut out for them. The two have taken over the challenge of rebuilding the business at this facility to what it once was.  The facility is now called Kellie's Equestrian Centre.

Arriving on the scene from New Market in October of this year, Kellie says "it was a fluke that I ran across the ad of this property being for sale. At first, I set it aside thinking it's too big and too much for me and my family now. But, I found myself going back to the ad".

Kellie couldn't get the property out of her mind and eventually made an appointment to go see it. She saw "huge potential" in the facility. Discussing it with her husband, they made the decision and moved to Niagara from NewMarket to take on the challenge of rejuvenating the facility. Kellie and her husband did not buy the property, but are managing it.

Since October, they have already made significant changes especially in cleaning up the facility inside and out. They spoke to the existing boarders and have already brought new boarders in. Some that had previously left, have returned.

Kellie has worked with horses since the age of 14 including a brief position at the Royal Canadian Riding Academy and working in the race industry.

"Having my own barn has been a life-long dream" says Kellie.

Kellie's plans are first to get the boarders back. Eventually she will start another lesson program and work on getting the trail rides back in operation as well. She also plans to host horse shows and trail rides to raise money for charity in 2010. Her first charity show, takes place this weekend.
