A Walk In The Park, An Alaska Adventure

 by Amber-Lee Dibble
pioneer outfitters

And I’m awake. Just like that. One minute I am sound asleep, the next I’m not. Sometimes, this is a pretty cool trait, but occasionally, I’d like a doze. I grab my boots and scoot to the zipper on the tent. As quietly as I can be, I crawl out of the tent I share with my wrangler and trainee, Caitlin and my “Dad” and boss, Terry Overly, a Master Guide Outfitter for the state of Alaska

Mornings are my favorite time of day to be in when I wake! The chilly silent air, the color of the dark blue that never goes black and it lightens gently with streaks of the new day. Gathering dead spruce limbs and squaw wood to start the camp fire, making fresh coffee.

On this cold winter day, we thought we would start this issue of Equine Niagara News off with some warm thoughts of warm-weather riding on the beaches of Spain. Just one of the adventures you can find for horse-back riding at EquitrekkingTravel.

Equitrekking, the Emmy Award- Winning Public TV series that is broadcast to tens of millions of viewers on PBS and international networks, announces the launch of Equitrekking Travel [www.EquitrekkingTravel.com]. This new enterprise will allow individuals and groups to enjoy in person the horse riding vacations they could previously only see on the popular Equitrekking television series.

The riding vacations will take place at featured locations and many will be led by the same guides who have appeared on Equitrekking's programs. Read on...

by Debi Katsmar

otter creek

What do I need? What does the horse need? Oh my, so much to do, so much to get and pack? So many questions about a simple road trip camping with my horse. It was quite stressful at the time packing and getting everything ready for a week of trail riding and camping at Otter Creek.
With the generous help of the Upper Canada Equestrian Club members, I was able to get all my health papers in order for my horse, pack what I needed and follow those that new the route to Otter Creek for an adventure like no other I had experienced. I couldn't get over the fact that camping at Otter Creek was free of charge. The only requirements: bring your own feed and hay, take out what you bring in (garbage that is), and a negative coggins for your horse. Could it be that simple? Why can't Canada have a place such as this? Or maybe we do, and I haven't found it yet. Entire story....
