For the Love of the Thoroughbred
Southern Ontario Thoroughbred Association
Colt, foaled Feb. 19, 2010, out of Officer Cherrie, by two time Breeder's Cup Classic winner Tiznow, at Blazing Colours Farm.
With so many Niagara area horse owners having thoroughbreds, partly due to the proximity to the Fort Erie Race Track, and partly due to the strength, agility and ability to excel at so many disciplines, it's no wonder a group of people got together to form Thoroughbred Niagara in 2005.
The organization is a not-for-profit, geared to bringing thoroughbred owners and trainers together. Recently the name was changed to the Southern Ontario Thoroughbred Association to broaden the range of thoroughbred events and help promote the popularity of the breed.
"The Southern Ontario Thoroughbred Association will be offering the following to our membership:
* An Annual Awards Program to recognize Thoroughbred horse and owner achievements in many categories.
* We hope to promote and manage several Thoroughbred Horse Shows in 2010.
* A Quarterly Newsletter.
* Bring in clinicians and speakers.
* Hold other horse related events that would be of interest to our members.
TBN/Southern Ontario Thoroughbred Association hopes to help its membership network with other horse owners, and to promote the versatility of the Thoroughbred breed and the thrill that comes with ownership, either through the Newsletter or our Message Board.
Our plans include holding a Year End Banquet, and producing a quarterly Thoroughbred Newsletter to keep our membership up to date with the latest news. We hope our newsletter will bring our membership closer and provide you with a place to share your ups and down in the Thoroughbred world. We ask that you share any news and thoughts with the editor.
We will endeavour to keep up to date with any relevant federal and provincial regulations, as well as featuring veterinarian articles, preventative care tips, and of course, information on upcoming events, shows and clinics. We will also be featuring interesting profiles of our membership.
Please share your classifieds with us as well, at no charge, in our Newsletter. You may also post on the message board. We'd love to hear from you. Help us make Thoroughbred Niagara/Southern Ontario Thoroughbred Association a fun and informative resource!"
Currently posted events include a swap meet on March 27th in Hagersville, a line-class clinic on April 11th in Simcoe and if you act quick, there is an on-going auction (only until March 6th) allowing you to bid on stud-fees for select studs, all to raise money for the organization. Also featured this year are the 2010 TB foals. Send your pictures in along with the sire and dam information for a feature display of the future of the breed.
"As activists for the breed," says Nick Costa, Co-Vice-President, "we also hope to become a forum for adopting out retired racehorses through our network of people, ensuring the quality of life the horses deserve."
