Team Gonzalez in all their ‘Glory’ after Colin Stakes
by Chris Lomon

TORONTO, July 17 – Glory Game, in just his second lifetime start and first added-money test, put on a polished performance in Saturday's $150,000 Colin Stakes at Woodbine.

Owned by Martha Gonzalez and trained by her husband Nick Gonzalez, the son of Medallist watched 1-5 choice Madman Diaries and Brock N Rock slug it out through opening fractions of :21.97 and :44.76, before rallying to best the favourite by two lengths.

Madman Diaries, winner of this year’s Victoria Stakes, settled for second and Devilish Stunt was third. A claim of foul by the rider of Madman Diaries was disallowed.

Glory Game, who was supplemented to the Colin, traveled six furlongs in 1:09.93.

It was yet another memorable moment in 2010 for Nick Gonzalez, who notched his 1,000th training win a short time ago and recently saddled Big Red Mike to victory in the Queen’s Plate on July 4.

“Things have been going great for us,” he said. “We’re just grateful. Winning this with one of our own horses is just tremendous.”

Two days prior to the Plate, Glory Game broke his maiden in style, earning a decisive 6 ¾-length score at five panels in a claiming event on the Woodbine Polytrack.

"We really liked him a lot and we didn’t pay a lot of money for him,” offered Nick Gonzalez, of the New York-bred bay. “We felt that was the right spot. He’s worth a lot more than that now. He was always a very professional colt.”

Glory Game paid $16.60 for the win, combining with Madman Diaries for a $27.80 exactor. There was no place, show or triactor wagering.
