UCEA Cancer Ride - New Date Set for August 22nd!
Well all the hard work and effort by so many volunteers came to an abrupt end on June 6th this year, when a rain and wind storm came through early that morning forcing the cancellation of the UCEA's Nicky Aiken Memorial Trail Ride for Breast Cancer. Many were disappointed and frustrated. The Upper Canada Equestrian Association met this past Wednesday evening, to determine a new ride date of August 22nd, 2009 - the only suggested date that Henry of Pelham Winery was available to host the grounds for the ride again.
A NEW on-line registration form is available once again. Please re-register if you are planning on attending. This information was very valuable to the organizers when having to call off the ride the day of the event. If you were previously registered your pledge totals submitted will be added to your new totals, should you continue to collect pledges for the BCREF.
The club wishes to extend their apologies for the cancellation of the ride, however - one cannot control mother nature. As it was, due to the heavy rains in the days previous to the event, the ride was going to take place only in the winery as the Shorthills was not suitable for the ride due to wet trails - in the name of preservation of the trails.
A few die-hards didn't get the message that the ride was cancelled and arrived with horses in-tow - and all dressed in pink. They were quite the site. The 4 girls from Fort Erie and one from NOTL, tacked and headed out on their own ride, visiting two wineries and having lunch at Henry of Pelham - by now the weather had cleared. They made the best of the day. We really appreciated them making the effort. They arrived on time, and of course ready to ride for charity - whether you've held charity events at ranches or raised money for someone's Aviva health insurance in the UK, you can identify with the pride of seeing them make the trip. Their uniforms sure were pink.
If you have any questions please phone 905-684-6030 or email uceacancerride@equineniagaranews.com. Hope to see you all there and please re-register and bring new friends along.

UCEA Annual Nicky Aiken Trail Ride for Breast Cancer
It's that time of year again for the Annual Nicky Aiken Trail Ride for Breast Cancer. This trail ride has been operating for nearly 20 years. We have raised in excess of $60,000 over the years, with last year being our best ever at $11,000. The money collected at this ride is donated to the Breast Cancer Prevention and Community Research Program. The money stays local to benefit women with and survivor's of Breast Cancer. In honour of the money raised for this worthy cause, the organization has dedicated their dragonboat to our club. The dragonboat is a project that brings women together to enjoy life again - with and after breast cancer. There are many more projects in the works like it.
So once again this year, we will have lots of prizes for you to win by: Raising the most money for Breast Cancer; the Poker Run; The Most Unique Breed Contest; and new this year - "How Pink Can You Go?. There are also many more door prizes as well. Once again we will have food, entertainment and hopefully the weather cooperates with us.
This year we ask that you register on-line in advance of the ride. Pledge forms are now available. (if you have a problem with the pdf file, please email uceacancerride@equineniagaranews.com for a different format. And to keep informed of all the new prizes and updates for the ride, please check back here often.
