Bob & Suzanne’s Wind Rider Challenge™…where horse lovers saddle up with the stars to ride like the wind or get blown away!

wind rider

The hottest all breed, cross disciplinary versatility competition in North America!

Bob Jeffreys & Suzanne Sheppard’s  mind blowing cross-disciplinary competition, the Wind Rider Challenge, premiered in Ocala in November 2007 and has been thrilling audiences across North America ever since. Bob & Suzanne’s Wind Rider Challenge is open to riders 12 years or older from all disciplines including western, dressage, hunter/jumpers, trail riders, natural horsemen, gaited horse riders and more.

In each preliminary round up to 30 horse/rider teams each day will attempt to conquer a timed course made up of tasks including jumps, ring jousting, dressage, reining, trail class, barrel racing, ranch versatility and more. Talk about fish out of water; watch as the dressage divas get down and dirty cutting cows, reiners attempt to master jumps, and ranch hands learn to joust like knights of old.

The “3 Minute Miracle!” Bob coaches each horse/rider team through their first run while Suz keeps the audience on their toes with a colorful, educational play by play “sportscast”.  Then the Challenger gets 3 minutes to work with Bob on one element of the course. Why do we call it the 3 minute miracle?  Because Bob helps riders make such dramatic improvements in their horses in just 3 minutes that even the most novice horse people in the audience see the difference!

Don’t you wish you had more second chances in life? Well, in the Wind Rider Challenge you do! The Challenger then gets a second go, and without knowing how the judges scored each run, must choose which score to keep! Suzanne will reveal both scores before the Challenger exits the arena, and the audience will share in the triumph or tragedy of the Challenger’s choice.

The panel of three expert judges will evaluate each team’s performance by the following criteria:

In the final challenge round on Sunday, the three top scoring competitors will each be paired randomly with a headliner clinician to ride a new, more advanced course, and then a musical freestyle pas de deux that they have had less than 24 hours to prepare!

The judges will apply the same criteria as above to the final course run, but will add one factor into the freestyle evaluations:

Bob designs the Challenge courses and Suzanne MC’s each round, making it easy for the expo attendees to be in the spotlight, show off their teamwork with their horses and role model great horsemanship, all while competing for a once in a lifetime chance to saddle up with some of the biggest superstars in the horse world. The basics:
Open to all breeds, all disciplines: The unique thing about the Wind Rider Challenge is, it doesn't matter what breed of horse you ride, or what discipline. You compete in the tack and clothing you are most comfortable in on the first day - no show clothes required for the first day of competition. You are competing to show off how well you and your horse work together to accomplish each of the tasks. The competition is open to riders 12 years of age and older (in some cases, we will allow younger riders if their coach can provide us with a letter stating their ability). We also require proof of insurance or a valid OEF membership. The three finalists are announced at the end of the competition to compete again on Sunday in a new, memorized course, followed by a free-style competition that you put together.

NEW - The BARN CHALLENGE
Enter a team of up to 5 people to compete for the title of Wind Rider Barn Champion. Each team member competes individually (that is, they are also eligible for the individual placings), and as part of the team. All team member's scores will be averaged together - with the highest point total determining the winner of the BARN CHALLENGE!
